Here we go. The beta tester welcome letter from Google, advised me that I had two choices, if I wanted to use this new feature. (1) Create a new content network /site-targeted campaign from scratch or (2) Edit an existing content network/site target campaign.
We decided to that we would take one of our current content network only campaigns and duplicate it for the purpose of this test. The results should provide us with an analysis between two identical content only campaigns, one using CPM (Clicks per thousand impressions) and one using CPC (cost per click(based on our bid price)). A few weeks ago I applied to be a beta tester for the Cost Per Click Bidding on the Content network. We were notified yesterday via an acceptance email from Google.
This added functionality means you can choose specific Google Content Network sites for your ad, and bid for clicks instead of for impressions (CPM) on those sites. Just like you do for the search network.
This new feature will allow you to create new CPC site-targeted campaigns from scratch, or switch existing site-targeted campaigns from CPM to CPC bidding.
I took a breif look at it yesterday, and it seems pretty similar to bidding functionality for search cpc. We will have to monitor some results before we can make a final analysis.
Check back here for the results of the test.
