Google buys Double-Click

Filed under: AdWords, Google — Kyle M Brown @ 9:14 am

On 4.13.2007 Google announced that it had purchased Double-Click . Some seem to think that Google will now have a huge conflict of interest and will loose focus on its bread and butter “Search”. I believe that Googles Search will not suffer from this purchase. In fact, there were rumors of a heated bidding war over DoubleClick between Google, Microsoft and even Yahoo and AOL. If this was the case, Google certainly won this battle and removed this potential plug and play piece of competition for online advertising. I am interested in seeing how this new system will be integrated into the Google AdWords program.

New features on my AdWords Campaign Summary page

Filed under: AdWords — Kyle M Brown @ 8:36 am

This morning I woke up to find the interface rearranged in the Google Adwords account section. The new features that I believe will have the most impact are the “Date Range” and “Show” features. Now the date range can be selected with a dynamic calendar which is faster than the previous pull calendar in my opinion and the show feature is simplified.

The AdWords program allows ads to be created for local searches. The same functionality is available for free through Google’s local business center. However, the AdWords local searches are display, according to budget, in more visible positions, similar to AdWords non local search results.

What happened to Googles Froogle?

Filed under: Google — Kyle M Brown @ 12:00 am

Yes, this is old news but I still wanted to cover it. Froogle is Googles FREE shopping comparison search engine. It displays the prices, and photos or products and has a powerful sorting functionality to compare these products. We have used Froogle for our ecommerce clients in the past with good results.

However, last August (2006) Google decided to remove the Froogle link from its home page to make room for Google Video. I think that Froogle lost some of its pop when they made this decision.

Google AdWords on Radio?

Filed under: AdWords — Kyle M Brown @ 12:00 am

Google has spent the last year or so putting together deals with both traditional and satellite radio, to offer Radio Ads via the Google AdWords program.

Google Audio Ads is an extension of the AdWords platform, allowing advertisers to create and manage radio advertising campaigns using the AdWords’ online interface. These Ads will offer detailed reporting, targeting by demographic, location, and station type, and provides easy access to the radio programming market . Very simialr to the AdWords search advertising .

Reports in your AdWords account, will show how much you’re spending, where and when your ad is playing. Advertisers will also be able listen to a recording of the ad as it was played on the radio!

While Radio advertising is not new, this innovative and easy access to using it is. I think it will be interesting to see the results of using Radio Ads in this manner. Although cost has not been fully disclosed, Google does say “You are in complete control over how much you spend” and “Factors such as the number and size of the markets you select, as well as the time of day that your ad will run, will affect the amount you’ll need to spend.”

This should prove to be very powerful for small business owners that lack large marketing budgets, in the same way the Search Engine Marketing has.
