CES 2008 brief review

Filed under: General — Kyle M Brown @ 12:00 am

As promised, here are some photos and brief point of my trip to the 2008 International CES. Overall the trip was a great one. The shuttles in Vegas are the best way to get around (IMOP). They ran every 20 minutes between the hotels and the 2 convention centers. The conference lasted from Jan 7 until Jan 10, 2008 (8 - 630pm pst) and was held at the Las Vegas Convention center and the Sands Expo.

Some of the highlights:

Panasonic 150″ Plasma Television - Panasonic displayed the worlds largest PlasmaTelevision. It looked like 150″ to me.

Panasonic 150 inch plamsa television

MyVu - Multimedia Glasses, that played music and displayed video inside of the glasses. Peripheral vision was still allowed. These are a great novelty, maybe good for flights. Kids might find them enjoyable during road trips.

Eye-Fi - Wireless SD card for Digital Camera’s that transmits photos to a PC without being removed from the camera. This may have been the best practical new item at the show, in my opinion. Voted Best gadget by Yahoo during the Conference. I have no pictures that do it justice but a Eye- Fi image can be seen here.

Ford’s Sync = The interactive automotive application, that plays music, calls home and other features based on your voice commands. This photo was taken from the back seat during a presentation by a representative in the red and black shirt (Left, Drivers Seat)

Other items of interest:

  • NeoNode = Cellphone/MP3 player IPhone Like but much smaller.
  • iRobot Looj = The gutter cleaning robot. Very Impressive!

There was too much to see to name discuss it all here but the show was very informative and it will be hard not to attend CES again.
