FaceBook now allows NON-Registered Facebook members ( the Public) to search Facebook Profiles from the Facebook homepage.

Facebook Profile Search

Ive read that some are concerned that there profiles contain personal information that may pose a security threat if posted in such a manner. However, the only data that is viewable by the public is a thumbnail (if provided) , a name, and a few means of contacting the individual using facebooks tools. Users should be aware that there profiles will appear in Googles and other search engines results.

Facebook has prompted users to with a notification vewiable after logging into Facebook.
