Google is basically saying that the Microsoft could cripple the creative, innovative, openness of the Internet if it gets control of Yahoo. Yahoo currently owns and operates the second largest search engine in the World.

Could Microsoft now attempt to exert the same sort of inappropriate and illegal influence over the Internet that it did with the PC?

My feelings are that Yahoo is a hot property for anyone that can get it, however, im not sure that Yahoo wants to sell. Being owner of the number two (second to Google) search engine in the world is a powerful position to be in and offers a lot of opportunities.

What I’m really interested in seeing is whether a not a traditional non Internet company steps in and makes an offer yo Yahoo. Yahoo is just the kind of property that a large ISP like Verizon, ATT, or Comcast could use to position themselves in the Internet industry.

Large Corporations such as these, traditionally drag their feet when new technologies are being born often missing the opportunity to grab market share and early adopters to the technology. However, history also shows that these companies step into the industry after most of the market share has been captured and buy their way into position. Rupert Murdoch’s New Corp acquisition of MySpace in 2005, is an example of this behavior.
