Wikipedia Search launches

Filed under: General — Kyle M Brown @ 11:02 am

The Wikipedia Search launches on or about Jan7 2008. My previous post on this topic can be found here and here.

TechCrunch says:

The search results are poor and thin, as would be expected if not for the huge expectations that have been set. Absolutely no one is going to use this to search the web, until (and if) it is greatly improved.

Search Results from Wikipedia’s search engine for “Obama”

I cant say that I see anything about this search engine that is really special at this point. The design is clean and there are links to Wikipedia articles related to the search query when available. It is in alpha mode so time will tell just how relevant this search engine will be.

    1. Wikia Search is unrelated to Wikipedia. Jimmy Wales founded both ventures, but that is where the connection ends.

    2. Mark,

The example above, displays links to relevant articles on Wikipedia found in the search results of Wikisearch. I believe that is not only a direct connection but a great strategy to leverage the existing Wikipedia content into the wiki network.
