Google is building an army for its Maps and Adwords products. Google is offering cash payments to anyone who completes its approval process.

The Google Business Referral Representative must perform the following duties:

Collecting Data:

  • including without limitation, personally identifiable information about such Customer, which is information that can be directly associated with such Customer such as a name, address, telephone number, e-mail address
  • digital photographs of each Customer’s storefront/exterior

Promote:

  • tell them about Google Maps and Google AdWords

Eligibility - you must meet the following requirements to qualify as a Business Referral Representative:

To be eligible for consideration as a Google Business Referral Representative, you must be authorized to work as a contractor in the U.S., be at least 18 years of age, and be able to complete an IRS Form W-9. You must also have access to a computer and a digital camera.

Payment: It appears that Google is offering $10 per referral. $2 for submissions that are approved by Google and an additional $8 for submissions that have been approved and are also confirmed by the business owner. A side note is that it’s unclear why Google offers the $2 portion of the payment. I suppose, in theory you could take the photos, collect the hours of operation from the front door or local phone book and submit them to Google without the business owners knowledge, of course it may never get confirmed and your leaving $8 on the table BUT Google would still have collected the data. Interesting.

This initiative, if successful, could provide Google with an army of people across the US, populating Google Maps with Local Information and promoting Adwords.

It also provides those that are knowledgeable of these Google Products, the opportunity to promote their own products or services (i.e. Per Per Click management).
