Google Trends attempts to provide insights into broad search terms. Google Trends is not new but the Hot Trends keyword feature is. This feature pinpoints keywords that, when compared to other keyword searches made on Google, appear to more active.

Google Trends itself displays activity around keywords that are provided by users in the form of a searchbox, very similar to Google’s standard search, with the exception of the word “Trends” being displayed on under Google and on the search button.

Google Hot Trends designates the top 100 most active keywords as compared to other keyword searches. One of the things that impressed me with this feature, was that additional information provided along with the keyword.

Google provides:

  • A ranking of how hot the keywords temperature (Mild, spicy, volcanic, etc)
  • A chart showing the time of day and the search activity for the keyword
  • News stories containing the keyword
  • Blog postings containing the keyword
  • Google search results containing the keyword
