Trackback to get more links and traffic explained

Filed under: Wordpress plugins — Kyle M Brown @ 5:53 pm

Soon after launching this blog, I discovered that I was receiving comments that were a combination of excerpts of my original post plus links to other blogs where I found the same exact content.

Instantly, I thought it was some type of spamming attempt. What I found was a trail leading to an interesting concept / feature named Trackback.

Read more about trackback feature

In brief, this feature allows someone who is reading a post on your blog, to create comments on your blog, while posting the same comments to his or her own blog as a posting.

The results are as follows, one comment to your original post which contains a link to the commentors blog. The link routes to a post on the commentors blog. This post contains extended comments about your post and of course a link back to the original posters blog.

In my case it did turn out to be spam as I suspected but only becuase the comments did not have any substance ot value, they were mearly exceprts from my post only. I also found these blogs loaded with similar trackbacks with no other content.

The upside is that those blogs still link back to my blog, even though I did not approve the comments.

Ay any rate, I found an interesting video and explanation of this feature here at How to do a trackback to get more links and traffic
